Job Description

We are seeking an experienced underground utility detection professional to lead and grow our Underground Infrastructure Intelligence capability within our Geospatial team.

This is a senior technical and leadership role for someone with strong experience in:

  • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
  • Electromagnetic locating (EML/EMI)
  • Underground utility investigations
  • GIS and utility mapping workflows
  • Infrastructure and construction environments

You will work across major infrastructure projects including:

  • Transport corridors
  • Power substations
  • Three waters infrastructure
  • Urban utility networks
  • Civil construction and infrastructure monitoring

Unlike traditional utility locating environments, this role is supported by a highly capable multidisciplinary Survey and Geospatial team with expertise across GIS, GNSS, LiDAR, AI-assisted workflows and infrastructure monitoring technologies.

The Role

You will:

  • Lead underground utility detection and investigation projects
  • Deliver advanced GPR acquisition and interpretation
  • Undertake complex utility tracing and mapping
  • Mentor junior staff and graduates
  • Support development of new workflows and technical capabilities
  • Contribute to client growth and service development

This role combines field leadership, advanced sensing technology and geospatial innovation, with regular travel throughout the North Island.

About You

We are seeking someone with:

  • 5+ years’ experience in underground utility detection or related infrastructure investigation
  • Strong technical capability in GPR and electromagnetic locating
  • Experience within infrastructure or construction environments
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • A genuine interest in technology and innovation

Experience with IDS Stream DP, GIS, GNSS, utility modelling or power infrastructure environments would be highly regarded.
