Woods is a multi-disciplinary consultancy delivering civil engineering, surveying, urban planning, and geospatial services across New Zealand. Automation, software, and AI are becoming core to how we operate, and our dedicated Data and AI team sits at the heart of that shift.

The Role

The immediate need is C# - you've shipped software into professional environments where things break and reliability matters. From there, this role grows into cloud-based systems, web projects, and AI-assisted workflows.

You'll work directly with domain specialists to turn complex workflows into well-engineered tools, using AI coding agents as a core part of how you work. The role involves occasional travel to Hamilton with multi-day stays as part of on-site delivery.

This is a full-time role, on a six-month contract so we're looking for someone who can hit the ground running — ideally available to start without a lengthy notice period.

What We Need

C# - the foundation

• Applications shipped into professional environments - you know the consequences of getting it wrong
• SQLite in production: schema design, migrations, query performance
• Map-based features (leaflet, maplibre) and spatial data handling
• The hard desktop problems: state, cache, file system, sessions, and logging

Cloud - must have

• Working knowledge of at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• You understand how applications connect to, depend on, and break against cloud services

Web & AI - growing into

• Some hands-on experience with JavaScript / TypeScript or web frameworks - personal projects count
• You're actively building things, curious about where the craft is going
• Exposure to AI workflows, LLM APIs, or agentic tooling is a strong plus

The Person

• Uses AI coding agents as part of their standard workflow - not as an afterthought
• Takes ownership end-to-end and doesn't wait to be told what to do next
• Communicates clearly with technical and non-technical people alike
• Still likes working on personal projects - side builds, experiments
• Open to travel, including multi-day stays in Hamilton
